Tiny Tim

The day we rescued Tiny Tim and his siblings was one to remember. We had gotten a call to pick up a litter of kittens and their mother. Simple, right? When we arrived we found 4 tiny babies huddled under a gas grill on a patio with no mother in sight. When they saw us they ran to us crying for food. They were starving! Their feral mom had 2 other litters this year and this litter proved too much for her. The mom had left them and was not nursing them. They were about 3 weeks old, too little for regular food. Besides being starved they were covered in fleas like we had never seen. They were literally dying from the fleas. The woman who called us told us that one had died the day before we got there. The tiniest kitten, Tiny Tim, was walking on 3 legs. His front leg was swollen and full of infection. A joint infection this severe is deadly in such a tiny kitten.
We took the litter to the sanctuary and bathed them to remove the fleas, then off to the vet. An x-ray showed that Timmy’s joint had disintegrated from the infection. All we could do is give him antibiotics and hope for the best. If this did not work the vet would need to amputate his leg to save his life. All of the kittens were anemic from the fleas. We took them back to the sanctuary and got to work getting them healthy.
Timmy was such a happy kitten that he did not let his injury stop him from enjoying life as a kitten should! After some time on antibiotics he started to improve. We felt at that point we were going to be able to save his leg and that he would just have a limp. But once again he shocked us all by healing so well that today he has no limp and you would never know he suffered such a life threatening injury. All of the kittens are healthy, thriving and NUTS
