Just two of our latest rescues

eli

Picture
Eli is a little feral cat that doesn't think much of his rescuers, but does appreciate his endless food bowl and warm soft bed. He was rescued after being hit by a car. He was obviously in terrible pain with a broken pelvis and dislocated hip, he was not going to to survive his injuries without help.  After being trapped he was taken to the vet where he underwent surgery to use screws and plates to fix the broken bones.  The surgery saved his leg and his life.
Picture
He is healing, but is not progressing as well as his rescuers had hoped. More veterinary care and possible surgery will be needed to get him back up and running. Eli is incredibly cute, a real goofball! He has already found a girl friend at the sanctuary and is fitting right in. He plays more than any cat we've ever had, he is a real lover of life! We are hoping to be his friend one day soon, he certainly appreciates treats!

Picture
Because Eli is feral (not socialized with people) he is especially lucky. Most feral cats with these kinds of injuries are euthanized because they can't be returned outside and they are not adoptable to a home environment. There are few sanctuaries that are set up to give these special cats a great life. Lucky for Eli, his rescuers contacted BDRF  and made arrangements for him to start his new life in a "cat habitat" where he will be cared for and loved despite his fearful nature and physical needs. Unfortunately it is "common knowledge" that feral cats are not happy living inside, which could not be farther from the truth! Eli loves the comfort of a couch just like all cats!

penelope

Picture
Penelope was abandoned at an apartment building. She had been out on her own for a year,  dragging huge clumps of matted hair that were still attached to her sides pulling on her skin and causing sores and a lot of pain. She is super sweet, and incredibly cute.  Her hair has been shaved and she is on the road to recovery!

Can't adopt, but still want to make a difference? Become a BDRF Sponsor!

We have several special-needs cats in our care. They include older cats and cats with health, personality or behavioral challenges. Each one is truly special in his/her own way.  These special needs cats are hard to place and many may never be adopted.  The Sponsorship Program helps us care for our special needs cats and the rest of our population until they find forever homes.
